Struggle with snoring? Here are some top tips from Better Bed Company!

Sleep; it's undoubtedly got to be one of the best things ever!

However, for some, sleep can be a disruptive, unpleasant experience due to snoring or their partner's snoring.

The importance of sleep shouldn't be discredited. A good's night sleep can bolster mood, physical fitness and recovery and set you up for the day ahead.

On the flip side of the pillow, poor sleep can make us irritable, decrease our concentration and even affect our choices at lunch time. Seeing us opting for the sugary snacks to restore our energy rather than a well-rounded meal.

In our latest Better Bed Company blog, we give our top tips on breaking the snoring habit and getting you back to a restful, peaceful night's sleep.

Stay hydrated throughout the day –

You might ask what drinking water has to do with my snoring, but dehydration is one of the leading causes of snoring.

Your nasal passages are secreting throughout the day; when you're dehydrated, these secretions become thicker.

In simple terms, you start to feel bunged up! By staying hydrated during the day (adults should aim to drink 2.2 litres of water a day), your sleep that night will be much more restful. Instances of snoring will be decreased by the power of water!

Bring your meal time forward –

Going to bed on a full stomach only increases your snoring bouts throughout the night.

This is because undigested food puts extra pressure on your chest and lungs; this pressure then releases itself in the form of snoring.

Nutritionists recommend eating your evening meal at least four hours before hitting the hay.

By eating at this time, you're giving your body's digestive system the chance to digest food and relieve any build-up of extra pressure.

Jump in the shower!

Did you know that, in many cases, snoring is often caused by allergens in the air?

If you suffer from allergies, one of the best ways to alleviate your snoring is to take a hot shower!

The steam generated by the water temperature lines the nasal passages with moisture, which, in turn, helps you to breathe better throughout the night.

Mouth exercises? Yes really!

It's time to start lifting weights with your mouth!

Of course, we're only joking here, but mouth exercises can help prevent snoring episodes during your sleep.

Like the rest of the human body, muscles play a crucial part in controlling snoring. Specific exercises can help to prevent snoring.

Before bed, why not try these two exercises:

  • Slide the tip of your tongue along the roof of your mouth, as far back as possible.
  • Press your tongue to the roof of your mouth and push!

Give these a try, and you'll soon start to see the benefits!
